Training & education
CBGP staff is involved in higher education at L’Institut Agro Montpellier, the University of Montpellier and various universities in the North and South.
The research carried out at CBGP underpins a major investment in higher education in agronomy (three research professors and an associate professor at L’Institut Agro Montpellier, in the Biology and Ecology Department), particularly in the fields of plant health and agricultural entomology. Professional training is also provided, through the organisation of training courses and open online courses (MOOC).
Many CBGP researchers are involved in various teaching courses at the University of Montpellier, particularly in the « Evolutionary Biology and Ecology » (BEE) Master’s programme. In particular, CBGP is involved in the organisation of the Darwin pathway of the BEE Master’s degree (Univ. Montpellier): Emmanuelle Jousselin is part of the teaching team as Director of Studies, and participates in the teaching, the M2 juries and the selection of students at M1 and M2 level.
CBGP is an active participant in the « Mobility European Master in Evolution (MEME) », run by four European universities (University of Groningen, Netherlands; Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany; University of Uppsala, Sweden and University of Montpellier, France) and associated with Harvard University (USA) and, from 2019, Lausanne University (Switzerland). The aim of the programme is to offer high-level training in evolutionary biology to students recruited from all over the world.
Researchers in area 3 are involved in setting up courses and teaching modules, and organising research schools, particularly on topics related to the ecology of zoonoses and biological invasions, both in the North and in the South: Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar and Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Senegal; Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey, Niger; Abomey-Calavi University in Cotonou, Benin.
Our ambition for greater involvement in higher education is also based on encouraging the unit’s researchers to get involved in setting up university module (e.g. on the biology of invasion, or the ecology of zoonoses, in universities in the South), as well as in innovative training initiatives (e.g. setting up MOOCs; supervising tutored projects or « Junior Research Labs », particularly in the courses at the Institut Agro Montpellier; training IDIL students, etc.).
