Ahmadou Sow’s postdoctoral project aims to identify the environmental conditions that favour the persistence of populations of a major pest, the oriental fruit fly, outside the growing season of the target crops. To this end, he will draw on demographic and genetic data and an analytical pipeline centred on a recent machine learning method that allows for the spatio-temporal dependencies of the observations. The expected results will pave the way for the development of preventive measures to control populations.
