Topic: Exploring the multitrophic interactions of insect defence symbionts at the community level

Although aphid defence symbionts have been extensively studied over the past two decades, there is still no direct evidence of their involvement in defence mechanisms against parasitism. In particular, the interaction between aphid symbionts and the venom of parasitoids remains unexplored. Furthermore, studies have focused on the direct effects of symbionts on parasitoid populations, but the complex indirect effects on the entire community of aphid natural enemies have been largely neglected.

In this multidisciplinary project, Maximilien aims to address these gaps by:

  1. unravelling the interaction between parasitoid venom and aphid symbiont protection,
  2. studying the indirect effects of aphid symbionts on the community of natural insect enemies,
  3. and bringing these themes together within a multidisciplinary approach to aphid protection.
