Having conducted research in evolution and ecology, particularly on the European corn borer, my work currently focuses on the “Peer Community In” (PCI) initiative: https://peercommunityin.org/
PCI aims to transform the scientific publishing process by creating communities of researchers who evaluate and recommend preprints in their respective fields. This initiative, which is free for both authors and readers, aims to reduce the costs associated with publishing whilst ensuring the transparency of the editorial process.
A recommendation for a preprint by a PCI does not prevent authors from submitting it to a traditional journal, particularly to “PCI-friendly journals” that take PCI evaluations into account. Furthermore, Peer Community Journal (PCJ) – https://peercommunityjournal.org/ – enables authors who wish to do so to publish their recommended preprints free of charge and with open access.
Since 2017, 17 PCI have been established: https://peercommunityin.org/current-pcis/, with over 2,000 publishers and over 100 “PCI-friendly journals”. PCI and PCJ are recognised and supported by over 150 scientific organisations and institutions: https://peercommunityin.org/pci-network/.
