Topic: The role of the microbiota in the adaptation of Drosophila suzukii to different host fruits Dates: 1 November 2023 – 31 March 2027 CBGP supervisor: N. Rode University: Univ. Montpellier, ED Gaia
The gut microbiota can influence several functions vital to the insect (metabolism, immunity, or egg-laying behaviour). However, the three-way interaction between fruit, microbiota and insect pests remains poorly understood. Sido’s PhD project aims to investigate the role of the microbiota in the adaptation of Drosophila suzukii to different fruits.
During her PhD, she will characterise the identity and metabolic role of the D. suzukii microbiota. By revealing how the microbiota affects D. suzukii’s adaptation to its host fruits, Sido’s PhD project will enable the development of new, more environmentally friendly biocontrol strategies.
