Calculation and Data management technical platform

The CBGP is a research centre recognised in particular for its expertise in the development and application of methods dedicated to the analysis, simulation and modelling of large biological datasets (e.g. high-throughput sequencing, imaging, satellite or environmental data).

This expertise is based in part on a high-performance computing and data management infrastructure, enabling the processing, secure storage and analysis of large volumes of scientific data. The facility thus supports research activities requiring shared computing resources and reliable, long-term storage capacity.

Main facilities

The Calculation and Data management technical platform comprises:

  1. a dedicated air-conditioned room housing all on-site IT infrastructure;
  2. a computing cluster currently comprising 6 nodes, each equipped with 16 CPUs and 128 Gb of RAM, with task scheduling and resource management via Slurm;
  3. a distributed storage system based on a Ceph file system, offering a capacity of over 100 TB for data processing and analysis;
  4. a secure DataVault storage infrastructure with a capacity of 80 TB, based on an Alletra 4120 server and featuring daily off-site replication to CINES in Montpellier via StorageGRID technology, ensuring the long-term preservation and security of the raw scientific data produced within the unit;
  5. a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database server (HP ProLiant DL380, 256 GB RAM, 16 TB storage) for the centralised storage, organisation and sharing of research data by theme or project.
