Mes recherches ont pour thématique principale l’analyse de la diversité virale des hantavirus et des processus évolutifs qui la façonnent. La mise à disposition d’un nombre croissant de séquences génomiques virales grâce aux nouvelles techniques de séquençage à haut débit (NGS) permet aujourd’hui de disposer d’un grand nombre d’informations génétiques sur ces virus. J’utilise notamment des approches phylogénétiques et phylogéographiques afin d’étudier et de retracer l’histoire évolutive de ces virus, leur origine et leur propagation, et établir leur mode de transmission.

L’objectif de mes études est de caractériser la distribution et la diversité génétique de ces virus zoonotiques transmis par les rongeurs et responsables chez l’homme de fièvres hémorragiques à syndrome rénal et d’identifier les facteurs biologiques et/ou environnementaux qui influencent l’évolution du virus. Nos terrains se situent en France et en Afrique où la circulation de ces virus reste encore mal connue. Une meilleure compréhension de ces mécanismes permet en effet de mieux prédire sa propagation et à terme, d’élaborer des politiques de prévention plus adaptées.
